MacBook Air Wi-Fi

AntennaGate Part Deux? Owners of the latest MacBook Air models don't seem all that impressed by the slim notebook's new 802.11ac, which seems to be causing an above-average number of problems.

Gizmodo reported Thursday
that reports have started pouring in about Wi-Fi problems with the latest MacBook Air, which taps into the latest 802.11ac standard for supposedly faster and more reliable wireless connectivity.

But that doesn't seem to be the case for a couple thousand owners who have taken to Apple's support forums in search of a solution to wireless problems also being experienced by Gizmodo UK's Chris Mills.

"Wi-Fi will initially connect, but after a minute or two the connection will stop working, and a total reboot is needed to be able to connect again," the report notes. "The problem is made worse when the Air is on a desk, quite possibly something to do with the Wi-Fi antenna being (*we think*) in the black plastic strip along the bottom of the screen."

During a visit to a London Apple Store, Mills was reportedly told the retail outlet had a "well above average" number of complaints about the MacBook Air's Wi-Fi, which appears to be happening across all makes and models of routers. Apple remains typically mum on the dilemma, which appears to have no known workaround as yet.
